Building for Efficiency and Flexibility

The building professionals at High Concrete developed the MEGA-SPAN™ building system as an improved method for building precast office structures. The MEGA-SPAN system features the MEGA-TEE™, our extra wide (15-foot) time and cost saving double tee.

MEGA-SPAN reduces on-site construction time by 20–30%—and can save even more time in the design phase.
Time savings result from single-source supply and on-site erection efficiencies which reduce the time required for superstructure erection and enclosure. As an example, MEGA-SPAN's one-step erection process eliminates many costly delays. And, because more of the building is "dried in" sooner, interior trades can begin work in one part of the building—while other parts of the building are still being erected.

MEGA-SPAN's erection efficiencies also reduce schedule-related general conditions costs as well as mobilization costs. Additional savings are achieved through precast concrete material efficiencies. For example, the integral MEGA-SPAN structure and enclosure system eliminates expensive structure and installation redundancies such as lintels, sub-framing, bracing, and scaffolding, etc. And the inherently fireproof, ready-to-finish MEGA-SPAN structural members eliminate the need for expensive steps—such as fireproofing and blocking out columns — altogether.

MEGA-SPAN reduces foundation, superstructure and enclosure costs by 10–30% vs. other systems.
The MEGA-SPAN prototypes used in the comparisons employed long span MEGA TEEs, efficient 45' x 55' bays and 13'–2" floor-to-floor heights. The conventional system prototypes employed standard 30' x 30' bays and 13' floor-to-floor heights.

*Savings shown are based on comparisons—conducted by a nationally-recognized estimating firm—of two prototypical office buildings: 1) a 4-story, 100,000 sf building; and 2) an 8-story, 200,000 sf building, both constructed with the MEGA-SPAN building system, and each with a footprint of 113' x 227'. These buildings were compared to similar prototypes constructed with steel or cast-in-place frames and brick veneered or precast enclosures.
